A Season Behind the Scenes

What a summer.

While Ibiza was at its busiest, our work took us through very different sides of the island’s legal landscape.

Yacht transactions. Real estate. Charter licensing. Maritime incidents. And the conversations that keep us connected to the wider yachting industry.

Some matters ended with a successful closing. Others required dealing with unexpected events. All of them involved legal work that happens largely behind the scenes.

Yacht Transactions Across Different Operations

This season, we assisted with the sale and closing of a Sunseeker Predator 68, the purchase of a Mangusta 72, the sale of a Wally Tender 48, the importation of a Mangusta 108 and the sale and purchase of a Wajer 55, among other yacht transactions.

Five yachts. Different transactions. Different legal questions.

A yacht sale, a purchase and an importation may all involve the same asset category, but the legal work behind them is never quite the same.

Our yacht transactions work in Ibiza covers the legal, tax and documentation matters that can arise throughout these operations.

Real Estate Transactions

We also assisted with the sale and closing of a €10 million property transaction in Ibiza.

At this level, the agreed price is only one part of the transaction. Title, planning status, documentation and contractual terms all need to support the deal through to completion.

Our recent work in this area reflects why legal due diligence in Ibiza can involve considerably more than checking the property itself.

More Than 200 Charter Licence Applications

During August, we handled more than 200 charter licence applications.

Behind that number were yachts waiting to operate, documents to review, requirements to meet and, in some cases, issues within individual files that needed to be resolved.

When a licence determines whether a yacht can operate, the legal process becomes part of the operation itself.

When Things Do Not Go According to Plan

This summer also brought a very different type of maritime work.

We are assisting with matters involving a motor yacht fire, a collision between two vessels and the sinking of another vessel.

Each incident raises different questions around responsibility, insurance, evidence, damage and the people involved.

These are the situations where maritime law moves quickly from contracts and transactions to maritime claims and liability after a yacht accident.

Staying Close to the Yachting Industry

Our work does not stop at individual transactions.

This season also took us to Cannes, where we continued to be part of the conversations, relationships and developments shaping the yachting industry.

Closer to home, we were also pleased to support the Ibiza Regatta by giving the starting signal.

Being involved in the sector means more than handling matters when they arrive. It means understanding the industry, staying current and remaining part of the conversations taking place around it.

Looking Back at the Season

A Sunseeker. A Mangusta. A Wally. A Wajer. More than 200 charter licence applications. A €10 million property transaction. And several unexpected maritime matters.

Different clients. Different assets. Different legal challenges.

What connects them is the work behind the scenes.
